The tiger symbol is the registered trademark in Canada of the Canada Shotokan Karate Society. The tiger was painted by the great Japanese artist Hoan Kosugi, to honor Master Funakoshi who used it on the cover of his first book to symbolize strength and courage. Just as Canada Shotokan’s teaching embody those of the Master, the words Canada Shotokan Karate surround the tiger. The irregularity of the circle indicates that it was probably painted with a single brush stroke. The character next to the tiger’s tail denotes the name of the artist.
